For my 3rd year industry placement, I spent 2 weeks working with a Dundee based textile designer, Junele.

Junele graciously presented me with an opportunity to create my own textile piece, using her scrap materials. This gave me a great insight into the possibilities for exploration and creation within textiles.
This experience to design and work with recycled materials was a great way to test ideas and put into practice what I was learning on the placement.

I had a great time methodically arranging the fibres by colour. Junele provided great feedback intermittently, teaching me efficient methods to sort quickly. I really appreciated the feedback and ensured to adjust my practice accordingly. I gained a wealth of footage over the course of this placement totalling up to 40 minutes, this breadth of imaginary allowed me to construct a well-rounded video which showcases the challenges and strengths of the placement.

Starting my days immersed in a repetitive process created a beautiful
space for reflection, particularly within my practice. Separating textile waste by colour and removing synthetic materials was a fascinating process, aided by its meditative qualities. Sending time with a reputable and commendable designer has inspired me endlessly, especially by her professional standards and high organisation within projects.
